This year, Trinity Christian Academy launched something brand new: its first-ever school newspaper, The Trinity Times. It’s a big step in TCA history and gives students a chance to share what’s happening around campus in their own words. What started as a tiny class with just two students has turned into a growing team of writers who all have something to contribute.
At first, the class had a hard time getting many students to join. Their solution? Donuts. “Every time we got a new student, we would have a donut party on Friday. It was a reward for our recruiting efforts,” explained Caleb Hart. The idea actually worked. What began with just two students has grown into a fun, tight-knit group of five who are excited to put together each issue.
Everyone joined for different reasons, but they’ve all found their place. Addison Spillers said, “I think it’s fun writing about the things going on inside and outside the school,” and loves reporting on events. Tripp likes the vibe of the class, saying he enjoys “the fact that it is so laid back” and that it gives him the freedom to share what he thinks. Tara added, “I think the ability to be myself and be creative,” showing how the class gives students space to express themselves. Together, their different personalities and skills help make the newspaper team both creative and productive.
For the teacher, Mrs. Beauchamp, leading the class has been a highlight. “I like the students. I like that they are able to have fun and produce quality work at the same time,” she said. She also sees the newspaper as a great way for students to learn things like responsibility, teamwork, and how to communicate professionally.
The students on staff know they’re part of something important. “It’s pretty exciting to be a part of the start of something that will grow for years and years to come,” said Addison. With creativity, teamwork, and maybe a few more donuts, The Trinity Times is off to a strong start.
As the paper continues to grow, it will be a place where stories are told, achievements are recognized, and life at TCA is remembered for years to come.
