The basketball season started for TCA in the last week of October, with after-school practice beginning. After playing well in the district and making the playoffs, the TCA boys basketball team is looking to rebound from last season’s playoff loss. However, it won’t be easy for these student athletes. After graduating six or seven seniors last year, new faces and young players look to lead the team to victory. One senior stands alone, Jonathan Overholt. Standing at a whopping six foot seven, J.O. expects the team to perform great this year and live up to the high expectations left by last year’s seniors. The game to go to is Lubbock Christian, after a nail-biting loss in last year’s game. J.O. looks to take them down in his most anticipated game of the season. Newcomers like Coen Haug and Caleb Hart look to fill massive roles and be young leaders on the team. They can’t do this alone; they need everyone there supporting them for all their home games.

On the other hand, the TCA girls basketball team is off to a strong start with plenty to look forward to. With a tight roster of seven players, every role matters, from practice players to hype leaders to the stars on the court. “Everyone is going to make an impact this year,” said Emily Ickert, who is a senior leader on the basketball team. From breaking records to breaking playoff hopes, Emily expects a big season from these Lady Eagles. When asked about players to look forward to, she stayed within her house and mentioned her sister, Alex Ickert. This dynamic sister duo looks to lead the Eagles to victory and beat their rivals, LCCS. The team has been putting in extra hours to strengthen chemistry and improve their pace on the court. With determination and unity, the Lady Eagles are ready to prove that heart and hard work can overcome any challenge this season.
