Trinity Christian Academy has had a special event throughout the year that allows students to wear jeans at the end of the month on Friday. Jeans Day at the end of the month has been a TCA tradition for a while now, and students have always loved having something to look forward to at the end of the month. This year, however, Mr. Smith had an amazing idea that made Jeans Day even better: Why not every Friday? All of the rules still apply, but students are now permitted to wear jeans at the end of each week with a spirit shirt. But how did this once-a-month tradition become an every-Friday event?
Our head of school, Mr. Smith, came up with this new and innovative idea and just had to share it with Mr. Whiteaker to make this plan come to life. Mr. Whiteaker had no problem approving this request, even saying, “Jeans can make you feel more comfortable and more casual. On Fridays we have worked hard all week long.” This is such a great reward for students working hard all week, and it gives people something to look forward to at the end of a long week. It also solved some common confusion from last year. When asked about why this change felt necessary, he responded, “The primary reason was just so families weren’t as confused on which Fridays were jeans and which weren’t.” This not only helped make Jeans Days much easier to remember, but it was also a good redesign of the former Jeans Day for students to enjoy. Now families won’t have to worry about which Friday their kids can wear jeans.
There has been much positive feedback from students in the secondary building. Freshman Olivia Sigala had a lot of good things to say about this change, including her excitement about getting a “break from wearing a skirt and it’s much more comfortable on Fridays.” This seemed to be a common response with all of the girls who were interviewed. The best response that was given was by London Martin when asked why he liked the new Jeans Day. Many would agree when London said, “I mean one Friday is just not good enough, you know I need it every Friday. GO EAGLES!” Although, when asked about what they would like to see changed, their responses were very similar, asking for colored jeans. Even middle schoolers loved this change, but eighth grader Adam Martin said, “I want to wear sweatpants,” which could be the next big hit with the kids here. Mr. Smith responded with, “both are great suggestions for someone else to come up with,” since Mr. Smith’s one idea has already set things into motion for potentially even more great changes. Who knows? Maybe colored jeans or even sweatpants could be the next big Jeans Day change.
Overall, Jeans Day has been a great change for students and families at TCA. What started as a simple idea from Mr. Smith has turned into something students now get to enjoy every Friday. While students new and returning already love the new Jeans Day, they have also come up with some ideas of their own they would love to see in the future, such as colored jeans and sweatpants. Maybe Mr. Smith’s one change will set things in motion for even more changes for the benefit of the students. For now, though, students can enjoy their jeans and spirit shirts every Friday.
