What started as a small group of students in 2014 has grown into a tight, talented team that brings excitement wherever they go. Over the years, the drumline has become a staple at pep rallies, games, and school events. They are always the group that raises the energy the moment they start playing.
The TCA Drumline is made up of students from different grades who all share a love for music and performing. Since the TCA Drumline started in 2014, the team has become a big part of TCA’s school spirit. But the drumline isn’t just about music; it also teaches discipline, teamwork, and leadership and helps members form a tight group that feels more like a family.
Under the guidance of Coach Dorrell, the drumline has grown in skill and reputation. He pushes the students to perfect every beat while encouraging both joy and discipline in their craft. When discussing how faith impacts this art form, he said, “What we get to do as a spirit squad is to bring joy.” This is exactly what they do; they’re known for bringing joy to every TCA sporting event. Dorrell also explained that drumming instills “a lot of discipline.” He went on to say, “There’s a lot of right and wrong in drumming.”
For the students themselves, drumline is more than a hobby; it’s an experience that builds character and friendship. Seniors like Cole Nicely reflect on the countless hours of practice, the thrill of performing, and the life lessons learned along the way. When asked what he is most looking forward to about his senior season, Cole said, “I’m looking forward to the solo competition in Feb, to truly show how hard I’ve been working.”
Recently, the drumline competed in the TAPPS State Drumline Competition, showing off new cadences (a short beat the drummers play) they had been practicing for months. The team went up against tough competition, but their energy and teamwork really stood out. For a lot of the team, it was a proud moment that showed how much dedication all of those hours of practice really took. In the end, the team finished 3rd in Tier 2 and walked away feeling proud of what they had accomplished together.
The drumline is more than just music; it’s a symbol of TCA’s spirit and energy—a spirit and energy that has been drumming up school spirit for 11 years. Their dedication, talent, and teamwork leave a lasting impression on the school community, proving that at Trinity Christian Academy, the beat truly never stops.
