Exciting Start to the Fall Sports Season: Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Cheer Take Off

This past month, student-athletes launched into competition across a variety of sports. Football has been battling, volleyball dominating, cross country enduring, and cheer energizing. Through it all, the community has rallied behind them, bringing a kind of spirit to campus that no other season can match.

The football team enters the year with high energy and a clear focus: growing as young men while competing to win. Led by standout senior quarterback Patrick Gullatt, the Eagles are building a culture of discipline, resilience, and unity both on and off the field. Gullatt’s leadership is evident in every aspect of the program. When asked about team goals, he shared, “To get better as a team, develop young Christian men.” He’s especially looking forward to facing rival LCCS and hopes for a different outcome than last season. With strong senior leadership, the Eagles are poised for an exciting year of football.

Volleyball kicked off its season in early August, aiming to build on the momentum from last year’s playoff run. The Eagles have faced tough competition in the preseason, using both wins and losses as opportunities to grow.

After last season’s heartbreaking playoff exit, seniors Emily Ickert and Berlynn Kaznowski are stepping up to lead, guiding the team both on and off the court. With many new faces this year, freshman standout Adah has already proven to be a difference-maker. Ickert praised her young teammate, saying, “Adah brings a lot of energy and confidence, and she’s not afraid of the big moments.”

With strong senior leadership and fresh talent, expectations are high for the Lady Eagles this season.

Cross country kicked off over the summer, with athletes waking up at 5 a.m. to build toughness and character in preparation for the season. Expectations are high after last year’s impressive fifth-place finish at state.

The team is led by senior Bo Merril, a state runner-up and two-year TCA varsity standout. When asked about his leadership, Merril shared, “I just try to lead by example and stay disciplined, working hard, and making sure the team stays focused on our goals.”

With their early mornings and relentless training, the Eagles are pushing for another strong showing at state this year.

Over the summer and into the start of the school year, the Eagle cheer team has been hard at work preparing their game-day routine for the state competition in December. After finishing second last year, the squad is determined to leave no doubt this season; first place is the only option.

During football and volleyball games, the cheerleaders bring the energy, motivating the crowd and pushing the teams toward victory. Leading the charge is senior Addison Spillers, who has been cheering since sixth grade. When asked how they keep the energy high during games, she shared, “We just remind ourselves why we’re out there: to support our team and represent our school with pride.”
