Super Bowl LX delivered a night of drama both on and off the field, and students at TCA had plenty to say about it. In a schoolwide poll conducted roughly a week before the game 62% of students predicted a SeaHawks victory, a prediction that proved correct after they triumphed over the Patriots in a 29-13 victory. The Seahawks’ win was decisive, powered by a dominant defensive performance and steady scoring across all four quarters. This victory denied the Patriots a record-setting 7th Super Bowl title, adding even more intensity to fans’ reactions.
To capture the mood on campus I interviewed a fan from each side. Our very own SeaHawks fan, Paul Chrane, said “I am very happy and Sam Darnold is the best QB in all of the NFL.” Meanwhile our Patriots fan, Coach Boyd, took a more humorous approach saying that “Will Campbell would make a better Amazon driver than an offensive lineman.” The contrast between reviews show the emotional roller coaster some of us went through that night. Triumph for some, frustration for others, and plenty of jokes to go on along the way.
This year’s Super Bowl not only made history for the actual game itself but for the halftime show. The NFL’s performance headlined by “Bad Bunny” drew an enormous 128.2 million viewers. Making it the most viewed half time show in Super Bowl history, but, for the first time, an alternate halftime show aired simultaneously. Turning Point USA produced its own “All‑American Halftime Show,” which attracted about 5 million live viewers and later reached around 21 million total views on YouTube. The existence of two competing halftime shows sparked natural controversy. Many viewers praised TPUSA’s show, while some others thought of it as unnecessary. The split in viewership highlighted how culturally divided the halftime conversation has become.
Between the Seahawks’ commanding win, the bold opinions from students, and a halftime show that literally split the audience, Super Bowl LX will be remembered as one of the most talked about championships in recent years. Whether students were celebrating, complaining, or arguing about which halftime show was better, one thing was clear, this Super Bowl gave everyone something to talk about that Monday morning.
