Lions, tigers, and students—oh my! This year, the Trinity Christian Academy Theater Department is bringing The Wizard of Oz to life. From hand-painted backdrops to extremely rehearsed choreography, every detail reflects weeks of hard work. Whether it’s the Scarecrow searching for brains or the Tin Man longing for a heart, the story takes on a fresh charm when told through the talent of our very own Trinity Christian Academy performers.
The cast of The Wizard of Oz is a mix of seasoned performers and first-time actors, each bringing energy and personality to their roles. Berlynn Kaznowski shines as Dorothy, capturing both the character’s innocence and bravery, while Jake Kelley delivers a heartfelt performance as the Scarecrow. The Tin Man, Cooper Blanton; the Cowardly Lion, Dane Southworth; and the Wicked Witch, Lily Currie, each add their own flair, creating memorable moments that keep the audience laughing, cheering, and singing along. “You pick a show based on your target audience, who will be coming to the show, what you think is going to be entertaining for that audience. You have to take into consideration who your pool of students is that could possibly fit vocally or character-wise in particular roles of the show to produce a good musical. The Wizard of Oz was truly just a perfect fit,” said director of theatre arts Wendy Kaznowski. “Our students bring dedication, so much perseverance, commitment, and are always striving for excellence.”
Behind the stage is an equally talented crew working tirelessly to bring Oz to life. Students and volunteers have spent countless hours painting backdrops, building sets, designing costumes, and perfecting light and sound cues.
Stage crew members shared their excitement about working behind the scenes. “I am most looking forward to seeing the final product come together on opening night and making memories with my friends,” said Ben Reynolds. Another crew member, Harley Wilson, added, “Seeing the show come together on opening night is magical. It’s exciting to see—whether you are in stage crew or in the show—just seeing all the work that people have been putting in for months finally pay off. You get recognition.” Their dedication shows in every detail of the production, proving that the teamwork on stage is matched by the teamwork backstage.
The dedication of both cast and crew has turned the production into more than just a play—it’s a schoolwide effort that highlights the creativity and unity of TCA. Teachers, parents, and student volunteers have all played a role in ensuring the show’s success, making it a true community event. From late-night rehearsals to last-minute prop fixes, every participant has contributed something unique that makes the performance shine.
Don’t miss your chance to be swept away to the Land of Oz! With dazzling costumes, classic songs, and heartfelt performances, Trinity Christian Academy’s production of The Wizard of Oz captured the imagination of all ages. Whether it’s your first time down the Yellow Brick Road or your hundredth, this show will leave you clapping, smiling, and humming “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” long after the curtain falls.
